The Zig and Zag Drill

1 min read

Here's a drill that you can shoot with our new Christmas Cheer Target (download it here). Not only will this drill help you improve your accuracy, but it will also help you with your speed reloads and transitions.

To perform the drill, first load a magazine with 9 rounds (if your mag/speedloader capacity is less than 9, just make sure you have at least 18 rounds available). From at least 3 yards away (with or without a timer), draw and place one round on each stocking starting at the top left and work your way down to the bottom right. When you've reached the bottom, without stopping, reverse the order by placing one round on each stocking from the bottom right to top left.

Reload as soon as you run dry and don't stop until you've shot all the stockings twice. The goal is to get all your rounds into the stockings as quickly as possible, so you'll need to find a balance between speed and accuracy.

Try shooting this drill a few times - start at a comfortable and measured pace, then speed up each time you shoot it. Once you miss more than one stocking, move on to another drill (or just shoot for fun!).

This drill is loosely based on the Typewriter Drill
