August is National Shooting Sports Month, so if you need an excuse to head out to the range, this is it!
If you haven't heard of National Shooting Sports Month, it's probably because it's actually pretty new. It was created in 2017 by The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF for short) and it was put together to encourage participation in the shooting sports and emphasize firearms safety.
Whether you're a skilled competitor or you just purchased your first firearm, everyone is welcome to participate in this celebration! Here are just a few of the ways you can celebrate National Shooting Sports Month in August:
Introducing a friend or family member to the fun and excitement of shooting is what this celebration is all about! Just make sure that you bring a good set of eye and ear protection for each person and take plenty of targets and ammo with you to ensure that everyone has a great (and safe) time.
Helping out a new gun owner or someone that plans on buying a firearm is a great way to make sure they understand how to handle their firearm on and off the range. Take some time to go over the basics of gun handling and proper range etiquette with a friend or family member, especially before heading out to the range with them.
No matter what our skill level is, every single one of us could use more training.
There are many different types of classes to choose from, so don't limit yourself! If you've mostly taken defensive or concealed carry training, try a competition class. If you're a competitive shooter, take a class that teaches a different discipline.
In addition to the ideas above, you can also visit shootingsportsmonth.org to learn more about special events and educational opportunities that will be going on during the month of August.
