Installation is easy! Clip the mount directly into the gap below your steering wheel column and clip it at the bottom of the dash/kick panel. It's great for those who often conceal carry and may not want to keep their pistol on them while driving. Also popular for those who travel. No more shoving a handgun between seats, placing under a seat, in a door, in a console, or in any other area that is uncomfortable, unsafe or not secure. No drilling, no hassle - easily clips into place and secures your firearm for vehicle carry with easy access.
**A holster is not included - you are purchasing the mount only** Just use any common type of holster, as long as it has a belt loop, belt clip, or slotted belt attachment, and attach it to the mount. The mount will work with almost any commonly-available holster. It will support even large handguns, as it has an internal metal support bar as part of the main frame. This keeps it from sagging and turning.
Mount will fit most vehicles. Please verify you have both a gap under your steering wheel column and at least a few inches or more of lower dash area just above your pedals. This is ideal for a more perfect fit. If you do not have a gap, have a thick gap edge or have an odd design, we recommend our Steering Wheel Column Holster Mount Adaptor. We do not recommend this product if you have an air bag located BELOW the steering column.
The steering wheel column holster mount is not vehicle or firearm specific. One size fits all, as long as you have a gap in your steering wheel column. Release holster in seconds to securely put away your firearm if desired. Length adjusts from 6¾” - 16½”.
The mount does NOT include a holster. It will work with most generic belt loop or belt clip holsters (generic nylon holsters, OWB kydex holsters such as BlackHawk!, Fobus, SafariLand, etc., and even IWB holsters). Paddle holsters and holsters with dual loops or snap loops (ie. pancake or wide MOLLE style holsters) are not recommended. The holster will end up facing you, so depending on how you wish to draw from it, you may need either an ambidextrous holster or opposite side draw holster. If you don't already have a suitable holster, ambidextrous holsters made specifically for the mount are available, both concealed and unconcealed:
If you don't have a gap in your steering column or you have a covered or thick gap edge (more than 1/4" thick), or you have concerns that it may not fit after looking at your vehicle, then use the Adaptor - the adaptor will allow you to use the mount as it was intended. Same function, same location. If you have a 2007 or newer GMC/Chevy truck or SUV, you will definitely need the adaptor.
STEERING COLUMN MOUNT SPECIFICATIONS
* Is it legal in your state? We don't know. Please check your local and state laws regarding firearm carry in your vehicle. This includes open/concealed carry, transporting, loaded/unloaded carry and vehicle carry laws. Please check your laws before ordering.
Before proceeding, DO NOT attempt attaching your holster onto the mount with a loaded firearm! Doing so could result in serious injury or death.
Use a common sized holster that has either a belt loop or clip on the side of the holster, located in the center. If your holster is not ambidextrous (belt loops on both sides), then you may need a left-handed holster for a right-handed draw, or a right-handed holster for a left-handed draw. We do not recommend you using a holster with more than one belt loop on the same side, snap loops, pancake holsters or paddles. If you plan to attach a wide holster, and you find the holster strap already attached to the mount is too short, simply replace the holster strap (labeled “Holster Strap”) with the longer replacement strap provided in the package. Un-Velcro and open up both the top holster strap (labeled) and the lower holster strap that is smaller in width.
Push / thread the top holster strap through the inside of the belt loop or clip of the holster as far as it will go, until the side of the holster is flush against the side of the mount.
Pull the end of the holster strap with tension, while still keeping the holster and mount flush with each other, and wrap the strap and holster together around the front of the mount. The front is the side with our logo.
Velcro the end of holster strap to the backside of the mount. The holster should now be snug on the mount.
Now, position the lower holster strap where you want it along the holster. You can detach and adjust this strap vertically.
Wrap the lower strap around your holster and attach. The mount is now ready to position in your vehicle.
Place the top mount hook into the gap below your steering wheel column. If there is no gap, or the gap edge/lip is too thick for the hook to grab, we offer a Vehicle Adapter accessory (sold separately) on our website that will allow you to install.
Place the bottom hook so it grabs onto the lower dash panel or somewhere in this area where it will allow you to tighten firmly.
Pull the buckle strap down hard to tighten the mount. (You may need to gently lift up on the large buckle a little to allow the strap to slide easier or try leaving some slack in the strap to get a running start before pulling. The strap material is heavy duty and will become much easier to tighten after installing a few times. You can also work the strap back and forth through the buckle to help break it in) Continue to pull until the mount is secure and tight.
Once installed, you can either tuck any excess strap material behind the holster or dash, or you can cut it off with a pair of scissors. You will want to seal the cut end using a match or lighter to prevent fraying. We recommend leaving the excess if you plan on using the mount in another vehicle, because the dash length may vary.
Your holster is now fully mounted and is ready to safely accept a firearm.
To release the mount, simply reach behind the holster and mount bar and lift up on the large buckle while pulling out toward you.
How to Install the vehicle handgun mount on the steering column
What is the mount intended for?
The vehicle mount was invented to provide concealed carry users a convenient, temporary place to store their firearm while driving. With a holster attached to the mount, the entire setup serves as a dedicated vehicle holster at all times. While many prefer to keep their weapon on their person while driving, many do not have that option based on their vehicle interior - or it is just very uncomfortable. The mount is NOT intended as a place to permanently store your firearm and leave it unattended when you leave your vehicle. It is a temporary storage place while driving and you then take it with you when exiting. Not only does is make driving more comfortable, but it also gives you immediate ready access to your weapon for self-defense.
