Steering Wheel Column Holster Mount

Quick and accessible, this vehicle holster mount is ideal for carrying a handgun in your vehicle for convenience or self-defense. Clip the mount directly into the gap below your steering wheel column and clip it at the bottom of the dash/kick panel. It's great for those who often conceal carry and may not want to keep their pistol on them while driving.  Also popular for those who travel. No more shoving a handgun between seats, placing under a seat, in a door, in a console, or in any other area that is uncomfortable, unsafe or not secure.

**A holster is not included, you are purchasing the mount only** Just use any common type of holster, as long as it has a belt loop, belt clip, or slotted belt attachment, and attach it to the mount. The mount will work with almost any commonly-sized holster. It will support even large handguns, as it has an internal metal support bar as part of the main frame. This keeps it from sagging and turning.

Vehicle Fit:

Mount will fit most vehicles. Please verify you have both a gap under your steering wheel column and at least a few inches or more of lower dash area just above your pedals. This is ideal for a more perfect fit. If you do not have a gap, have a thick gap edge or have an odd design, we recommend our Steering Wheel Column Holster Mount Adaptor. We do not recommend this product if you have an air bag located BELOW the steering column.

The steering wheel column holster mount is not vehicle or firearm specific. One size fits all, as long as you have a gap in your steering wheel column. Release holster in seconds to securely put away your firearm if desired. Length adjusts from 6¾” - 16½”.

Holster Info:

The mount does not include a holster. It will work with most generic belt loop or belt clip holsters (generic nylon holsters, OWB kydex holsters such as BlackHawk!, Fobus, SafariLand, etc., and even IWB holsters). Paddle holsters and holsters with dual loops or snap loops (ie. pancake or wide MOLLE style holsters) are not recommended. The holster will end up facing you, so depending on how you wish to draw from it, you may need either an ambidextrous holster or opposite side draw holster. If you don't already have a suitable holster, ambidextrous holsters made specifically for the mount are available, both concealed and unconcealed:

See Standard Holster (Unconcealed) Here

See Concealed Holster Here

Adaptor:

If you don't have a gap in your steering column or you have a covered or thick gap edge (more than 1/4" thick), or you have concerns that it may not fit after looking at your vehicle, then use the Adaptor - the adaptor will allow you to use the mount as it was intended. Same function, same location.

Installation

Installation

installation of steering wheel mount 1

Before proceeding, DO NOT attempt attaching your holster onto the mount with a loaded firearm! Doing so could result in serious injury or death.

Use a common sized holster that has either a belt loop or clip on the side of the holster, located in the center. If your holster is not ambidextrous (belt loops on both sides), then you may need a left-handed holster for a right-handed draw, or a right-handed holster for a left-handed draw. We do not recommend you using a holster with more than one belt loop on the same side, snap loops, pancake holsters or paddles. If you plan to attach a wide holster, and you find the holster strap already attached to the mount is too short, simply replace the holster strap (labeled “Holster Strap”) with the longer replacement strap provided in the package. Un-Velcro and open up both the top holster strap (labeled) and the lower holster strap that is smaller in width.

installation of steering wheel holster mount 2

Push / thread the top holster strap through the inside of the belt loop or clip of the holster as far as it will go, until the side of the holster is flush against the side of the mount.

Pull the end of the holster strap with tension, while still keeping the holster and mount flush with each other, and wrap the strap and holster together around the front of the mount. The front is the side with our logo.

installation of steering wheel holster mount 3

Velcro the end of holster strap to the backside of the mount. The holster should now be snug on the mount.

installation of steering wheel holster mount 4

Now, position the lower holster strap where you want it along the holster. You can detach and adjust this strap vertically.

installation of steering wheel holster mount 5

Wrap the lower strap around your holster and attach. The mount is now ready to position in your vehicle.

installation of steering wheel holster mount 6

Place the top mount hook into the gap below your steering wheel column. If there is no gap, or the gap edge/lip is too thick for the hook to grab, we offer a Vehicle Adapter accessory (sold separately) on our website that will allow you to install.

installation of steering wheel holster mount 7

Place the bottom hook so it grabs onto the lower dash panel or somewhere in this area where it will allow you to tighten firmly.

installation of steering wheel holster mount 8

Pull the buckle strap down hard to tighten the mount. (You may need to gently lift up on the large buckle a little to allow the strap to slide easier or try leaving some slack in the strap to get a running start before pulling. The strap material is heavy duty and will become much easier to tighten after installing a few times. You can also work the strap back and forth through the buckle to help break it in) Continue to pull until the mount is secure and tight.

Once installed, you can either tuck any excess strap material behind the holster or dash, or you can cut it off with a pair of scissors. You will want to seal the cut end using a match or lighter to prevent fraying. We recommend leaving the excess if you plan on using the mount in another vehicle, because the dash length may vary.

Your holster is now fully mounted and is ready to safely accept a firearm.

To release the mount, simply reach behind the holster and mount bar and lift up on the large buckle while pulling out toward you.

If you still have any questions or difficulty installing, please contact us and we will be glad to answer your questions.

How to Install the vehicle handgun mount

Questions

Commonly asked questions:

What was the mount created for?

The vehicle mount was invented to provide concealed carry users a convenient, temporary place to store their firearm while driving.  With a holster attached to the mount, the entire setup serves as a dedicated vehicle holster at all times. While many prefer to keep their weapon on their person while driving, many do not have that option based on their vehicle interior or it is very uncomfortable. The mount is NOT intended as a place to permanently store your firearm and leave it unattended or left behind. It is a temporary storage place while driving and you then take it with you when exiting. Not only does is make driving more comfortable, but it also gives you immediate ready access to your weapon for self-defense. There is no product on the market today that is more readily accessible in the vehicle or provides natural movement, free of obstructions than where your weapon is on our mount.

Will the mount work on my vehicle?
  • The vehicle mount is universal by design to fit most any car or truck and is not vehicle specific.
  • The mount works on most vehicles that have a gap beneath the steering column for tilt steering. You want to look for this gap beneath your vehicle's steering column and make sure that the gap edge/lip is a 1/4 inch or less in thickness, in order for the top hook of our mount to attach.
  • If this gap edge/lip is thicker than 1/4 inch, or it is covered with rubber or plastic, then you will need our Vehicle Mount Adaptor accessory. Our adaptor simply bypasses the gap entirely, to allow mounting to vehicles that have issues installing.
  • Our vehicle mount mount adjusts from 6 3/4” to 13 1/2”, so please make sure your lower dash area is not too short or too long for the mount. If your vehicle is one of the few with a lower dash airbag, then we do not recommend this product.
Will the mount work with my firearm(s)?

The vehicle mount will support any commonly sized firearm. The mount has a metal support bar sewn into the webbing that is firm and difficult to bend. It will support the heaviest of guns you would ever practically think of carrying. All you need is a holster that fits your firearm and you can attach it to our mount.

What type of holster can I use on the mount?
  • Any common size width holster will work, as long as it has a belt loop, belt clip or belt slots. The holster loop or clip needs to be on the side of the holster and in the center, like you would traditionally find on any OWB (outside-the-waistband) holster.
  • The mount has a strap that is used to attach the holster and it acts just like a pants belt would. You feed the strap through the belt loop like a pants belt. We also include a longer strap in the package for use with wider style holsters.
  • You may need an ambidextrous holster for use with the vehicle mount, depending on how you want the draw angle. This is because when you attach the holster, it ends up facing you - which reverses the draw.
  • Holsters with double belt loops or snap loops, are not receommended as most do not work well. We also do not recommend you using a paddle holster or MOLLE style holsters.
  • Find a holster.

What size holster do I need for my firearm?

Please see the Holster Size Chart. The chart can be located on the Mount Holster product page.

My firearm is not listed in the Holster Size Chart. Which holster size do I need?

All of the holsters are universal in design. Find a firearm already listed that closely matches the size of the handgun you wish to use. Under the steering column, it is not as noticeable or as much of a concern as it would normally be for a holster being carried on your person. Our holster sizes can usually accept a wide range of models, so you aren't constantly taking on/off different holsters if you carry more than one firearm or buying numerous holsters.

Is the mount legal?
  • In many states it certainly is. In a few states, it isn't. Those laws vary and they change over time. We cannot keep track of all laws fo rall states. It is every gun owner's responsibility to know their state laws regarding carrying a firearm.
  • We also recommend that you research which states around you allow vehicle carry and the laws pertaining those states, and plan ahead when traveling out of state.
  • Do not believe everything you read from others on Internet gun forums. Do the research yourself.
Is the mount considered Open or Concealed?

This depends on many factors of the vehicle being used, but usually it is considered Open as it is within plain sight when you know to look for it. It is harder to notice when it is situated between your legs while driving with the steering column over the top of the setup. It is much easier to notice when you are not in the driver's seat or are entering/exiting the vehicle. It  also depends on the height of the vehicle, contour of the dash, color of interior and if you have tinted windows. We advise you have your firearm license when using the product, no matter what state you live in.

Do the products come with a warranty?

Absolutely. You have a Lifetime Warranty that covers all craftsmanship and materials under normal use. The manufacturer will repair or replace the product at no charge, including shipping the item back to you.

Are the products made in the USA?

Yes. All the Vehicle Handgun Mounts and Holsters are made in the USA by hard working Americans.

  1. 2014 silverado 2500hd

Posted by Ben Manier on 26th Sep 2014

I bought the vehicle handgun mount ,I think this is agreat idea. It did not fit under the steering like it should but that was a blessing, the plastic has a much deeper lip the hook can not grab a hold I even tried toturn it up side down. I did not want the extra strap around the steering column so I cut A slit in the Plastic for the hook you can not get the strap tight enough so I tightened thestrap short and with slit . I could push the hook up and it snapped into place perfect. PS hook the holster up first , use the large strap that comes with it to connect the holster and the small strap to secure the lower shaft to the. Strap, makes. A very tight fit.

  4. One of the best purchases I have ever made

Posted by Unknown on 21st Aug 2014

I bought this product for my Fiancé , and he can't stop talking about how much he love this product. It's super easy to assemble and the perfect way have an easily accessible gun. I have already told just about all of my gun owning friends about this product. In my opinion it's a must have!

  5. A Must Have!

Posted by Jack on 18th Jul 2014

Works as advertised and easy to install in less than 5 minutes. (It only required one small adjustment.) You might want to check out the location below steering column for airbag deployment. Then it's a choice of possibly being injured by one's own gun from your airbag or not having easy access to your firearm. Having your airbag deploy is a risk you have some control over, versus a unknown situation which you have no control over. I chose to protect myself from situation number two. Easy decision.

  6. Does the job

  8. Absolutely Love It!

Posted by Danny on 9th Apr 2014

I've wanted this under dash mount ever since I heard about it. Really glad I pulled the trigger on the purchase. It's the best way I've found to carry a readily accessable gun in the car.

  9. Vehicle holster okay, could be better

Posted by Unknown on 27th Mar 2014

    I purchased two- one for the wife's Jeep, one for my 1997 Ford F-250 4 x 4.

Did not work for my truck as holster would not cinch short enough at the area below the steering column.

Worked okay for the Jeep, but wish there was someway to make it cinch tighter- getting this strap to cinch really tight does not work with your hands in there, pulling down, trying to create slack at same time.

  10. Great place to store a weapon in your vehicle

Posted by Vikki on 8th Jan 2014

My husband loves this as well
